Catalog description

This course examines the history, theory, and practice of the correctional system in America including adult and juvenile correctional institutions, punishment, and community-based corrections. Emphasis is placed on the correctional process, human rights, constitutional protections, effects of institutionalization, cost, and overcrowding. Ethnicity, gender, and aging populations are also explored.
