Database Management Systems

Catalog description

This course introduces students to the theory and application of usage of modern relational database systems in business. The theory and practice of design approaches and languages for the relational model are emphasized. Specific topics will include data modeling: database design using normalization approaches; utilization of Structured Query Language (SQL) to interact with relational databases; concurrency control, recovery, optimization, and data integrity; common database architecture found in the business world. Prerequisites: CISM 215 Information Technology Applications II and MATH 120 College Algebra with a grade of "C" or better.
