Catalog description

The course is the first in the Nursing sequence and is taken with NUR-301B. In this course, a foundation is set for the beginning Nursing student as a member of the profession. The legal, ethical, and professional mandates of safety and quality are discussed while implementing caring behaviors, therapeutic communication, and culturally competent care. The focus of the course is nursing care of the adult patient experiencing chronic physical and psychological changes related to illness and disease. Pharmacology is introduced in this course and is addressed in each subsequent course. Nursing competencies are acquired in the skills lab with simulated learning experiences include high/low fidelity scenarios and virtual software. Clinical application of outcomes occurs in acute and community clinical sites. Students need to purchase a skills lab kit for personal use and a testing software program to be used throughout the program.
