Catalog description

This course introduces safety practices and environmental responsibilities associated with operating compact construction equipment such as skid steers, mini excavators, and compact loaders. Students learn OSHA aligned safety procedures, hazard recognition, equipment walk around inspections, and proper use of personal protective equipment. Instruction covers safe maneuvering in confined or residential work areas, soil disturbance awareness, and basic erosion and sediment control methods. Emphasis is placed on preventing environmental impacts through spill prevention, proper material handling, and maintaining clean, controlled work zones. Through hands on demonstrations and applied exercises, students develop the foundational safety skills required to operate compact equipment responsibly on small to mid size jobsites. Lecture 2 hours per week.
