Catalog description

This course traces the development of 20th century American popular music from its roots in American folk music, blues and Tin Pan Alley through the inception of Jazz and late-20th century popular movements. It includes Rock and Roll, Motown, the British Invasion, 1960's folk, heavy metal, hip-hop, rap, punk rock and other defining genres. Students will learn about artists, styles and musical characteristics they developed during the 20th century.
