Catalog description

Prerequisite: None. Prior experience reading music is not required but would benefit students. ^ This course will introduce students to the performance, history, and cultural significance of the steelband. Through rehearsal and performance, students will develop ensemble skills, musicianship, and an understanding of the steelpan's roots in the Caribbean, particularly Trinidad and Tobago. The ensemble performs repertoire drawn from rock, pop, classical, calypso, soca, and more. This course is repeatable 3 times.(1.1) Special Note: The ensemble is open to all qualified adults as well as college and high school students. Students may choose to participate in the ensemble earning college credit (enrolling in MUS-122) or for personal interest (enrolling in CSX-122). This course is repeatable 3 times.
