Prerequisite: None ^ Elementary Japanese I is a course built on a framework established by National Standards? five goal areas: communication, cultures, connections, comparisons, and communities. The entire course is taught basically in Japanese except for occasional explanation in English. The classes consist of thematic units, and authentic supplemental materials including web-based contents designed for language and culture learnings. The course teaches students to develop both communication and language learning strategies. The instructor plans and implements structured cooperative learning activities to support ongoing and frequent interpersonal interaction, and employs a range of instructional strategies to meet the diverse needs of students. The course provides students with frequent opportunities to conduct Web searches, word process, and e-mail in Japanese. (1.1) Proficiency Credit Available (2 HICT) Pass/No Credit Available
