Catalog description
This two-part historical survey course traces the theory and development of dance from its anthropological origins to the contemporary performance practices of the 21st century. Dance History I covers dance as ritual, dance as spiritual practice, dance of the African Diaspora in both concert and vernacular forms, and the origins of ballet. Special emphasis is given to experiential learning in non-Western dance techniques.
