Catalog description

This course builds on skills from THEA 143A MT Dance I: Beginning Technique. It is a practical approach to basic techniques with an enhanced exploration of musical theatre dance styles required of Musical Theatre performers at the beginning level. Each class will incorporate ballet and jazz dance terminology, basic floor combinations, and a variety of musical theatre dance styles, as well as include cultural and historical influences. Students are offered a focused and inclusive approach to develop performance skills and demonstrate improved movement, rhythm, flexibility, strength, and musicality in ballet and jazz techniques. Students are introduced to musical theatre dance combinations and professional musical theatre dance audition procedures at the beginner level. Designed for first-year Musical Theatre students with previous and recent structured training.
