Catalog description

This course foregrounds consumer diversity in the beauty industry and is a foundational cornerstone to the Global Beauty Management M.A. and Inclusive Beauty Management Certificate. It introduces students to major consumer cultural influences on beauty practices around the globe that can be levied by managers to include new addressable markets, discover beauty and wellness innovations embedded in diverse histories and practices, and communicate effectively across western and non-western markets. In order to decenter western constructs of beauty and wellness often embedded in global historical surveys, this course will offer an object-based historical survey tethered to cultural constructions of objects and their users by deeply investigating 10 beauty or wellness artifacts in each module.
