Moldmaking and Fabrication

Catalog description

This studio class provides students with instruction in basic and intermediate methods of moldmaking and the production of multiples. Techniques will be introduced for fabrication in materials such as plaster, wood, metal, plastic, and/or rubber, and the application of these in moldmaking and sculptural construction. The focus is on guided development of individual projects through experimentation and personal proposals. Students will participate in group critiques as well as regular one-on-one advising sessions, allowing for iterative refinement of each artist's vision. Conceptual and technical knowledge will be developed through presentations related to projects, individual meetings with students to discuss concepts and solve technical problems, and group critiques. Coursework will also consider strategies for presenting sculptural and spatial works; and considerations for showcasing work in various exhibition contexts.
