Catalog description

What is the mythic origin of Japan? Why were women so valued during the Heian Period? What gave birth to the samurai? Why is the tragic story of Minamoto no Yoshitsune so attractive to the Japanese? Why did tea become a ceremony in Japan? How was popular culture born during the Tokugawa period? Did the ninja really exist? These and other intriguing questions will be examined in this course. Prerequisites: EN 102 and COM 101.
