Catalog description

This course guides the students in exploring the meaning of literacy and how it is taught with research-based strategies. Topics include a comprehensive view of the development of reading and writing from emergent to fluent stages; the role of oral language, culture, and new literacies; creating a literate environment; and developing expertise in using children's literature. The course emphasis is on lower elementary language arts. Prerequisites: ED 220, ED 221.
