Catalog description

Constitutional Law 1: Advanced Sack will cover doctrinal material consistent with existing three-unit Constitutional Law 1 courses but do so using the Sack Program model. Constitutional Law 1: Advanced Sack will require students to complete at least two writing assignments. Students will receive feedback on those assignments from a Sack Fellow (a successful upper division student). The class will also integrate and explicitly teach legal analysis skills and self-directed learning for at least thirteen class hours during the semester. Consistent with the 1L Sack Program, the additional thirteen hours accounts for the time provided by the additional Sack unit. The legal analysis skills taught will include synthesizing and distilling legal rules, sophisticated analogical reasoning, identifying legal issues, utilizing relevant facts to support one side or another to analyze legal issues. Students will engage in self-assessment and self-reflection on their own work product and learning process.
