Catalog description

This course provides an introduction to clinical skills and an overview of theoretically based foundational elements of psychotherapy. Rather than teach a series of specific and overly determined series of techniques, we will focus on fundamental elements of being a clinical psychologist and establishing meaningful therapeutic relationships with clients. Didactic material, readings, discussion, reflective journaling and term papers as well as experiential practice in class will be used to help students consider the roles of clinician, interviewer, and client. The class will also include an experiential lab component, to begin to prepare students to sit comfortably with clients as part of a psychotherapeutic encounter. RESTRICTED TO PSYD STUDENTS
