Scholarly writing can be a powerful catalyst for social, spiritual, and material change. This course introduces two key forms of scholarly writing that empower students to translate ideas into meaningful change: research papers and grant proposals. This course offers an opportunity for students to strengthen their foundational writing and research skills so you can add your voice with confidence to the conversations shaping women's spirituality, gender, religion, social justice, and beyond. Through guided practice, students will learn how to develop and support original arguments, hone the clarity and coherence of their writing, and cultivate an authentic scholarly voice. The course covers essential research methods, including conducting library research, evaluating and citing sources according to Chicago style, and assessing how to integrate academic material. We will work together to learn how to craft clear, compelling academic papers. In addition, students will also be introduced to the fundamentals of grant proposal writing. This course is required for students in the MA degree in Women, Gender, Spirituality, and Social Justice but is open to students from other programs who are interested in refreshing their academic writing and basic grant writing skills. Priority registration to WSE students.
