Catalog description

In conjunction with clinical work at a CIIS approved practicum site, this course will prepare students to meet the academic and clinical requirements for effective practice within the legally mandated scope of work for MFT or LPCC trainees and the evolving professional ethics in counseling psychology. This course provides the means for students to present, analyze, and critique the group and individual expressive arts therapy sessions conducted at their respective internship sites. Concepts learned during the didactic part of the program are reviewed and applied to clinical work with clients. Artwork, dramatic enactment, movement and music are integrated with discussion and self-analysis, in an attempt to help the student find a basis for their clinical work. The modeling of creating a safe container, working experientially with client material as well as personal material, learning through experience and discussion about the transformative nature of creative expression is to provide a model of facilitating groups, to develop a therapeutic presence and understanding how to create a safe container for clients.
