Ecology of Souls
California Institute of Integral Studies · Fall 2026
Catalog description
This course explores the near-death experience (NDE) in relation to other contact modalities. After firmly establishing their history, study, and cultural contexts, NDEs are then placed in dialogue with a broad spectrum of comparative frameworks. This interdisciplinary approach includes folklore, religious practices, ancient and indigenous mythologies, and topics of emerging academic interest such as extended consciousness, spiritual practice, and Unidentified Aerial Phenomena (UAP). Students will learn to analyze and challenge conventional boundaries between NDEs and other extraordinary claims, fostering open, reflective engagement with diverse human experiences. RESTRICTED TO RESEARCH PSYCHOLOGY AND EWP PhD STUDENTS
