Reading Into Writing
California Institute of Integral Studies · Fall 2026
Catalog description
Reading into writing means leading with curiosity and seeking inspiration as you engage with myriad texts written, visual, hybrid, and otherwise. It means thinking clearly, creatively, and strategically when reading the material at hand, and finding your own methods for mapping a works intentions, effects, and desires. We'll read and be in dialogue with a wide range of texts including essays, letters, articles, poems and stories. Throughout this course, you will be encouraged to find fresh and surprising ways of responding to the shared readings. In that spirit, you will engage (i.e., read, react, and respond to) the assigned texts and each others' written work using a variety of modalities, including prose analysis, poetry, spoken word, video, and perhaps more. RESTRICTED TO UNDERGRADUATES
