Psychology of Image

Catalog description

Every day, we interact with countless images in both our waking and sleeping hours. The ability to express thoughts and ideas through image was a major development in distinguishing human consciousness from that of non-human animals. Since that time, humans have used images to communicate, to inspire, to motivate, and even to terrorize. This course introduces psychological approaches to image, including active imagination and cross-cultural parallels. Students will work with images ranging from prehistoric cave art, to dreams, to modern film and advertising. RESTRICTED TO UNDERGRADUATES
