Catalog description

This introductory course teaches the rudiments of music in sufficient depth to enable students to both read and notate music and describe musical relationships. The course focuses on the fundamental elements of musical structure, including pitch, notation, intervals, scales, keys, chords, meter, and rhythm. This course prepares students for the study of functional tonal harmony-the primary topic of the courses in the music theory sequence (Theory I and Theory II).
