Catalog description

RESISTANCE AND REVOLUTION IN THE ATLANTIC WORLD FROM 1776 TO 1850. The Atlantic world was shaped in the period 1750-1850 by systems of colonialism and slavery. This course explores the manifold ways in which oppressed peoples organized themselves, seeking to overthrow those systems and create more equitable societies. Particular attention will be paid to the revolutions and uprisings in France, the United States, the Caribbean (especially Haiti and Jamaica), North Africa and Latin America.
